There are 12 different committees operating within the department. Each of them has a chairman and members who are selected by the chairman. The chairmen report to the general coordinators on a fortnightly basis. This page has brief descriptions of the objectives of each committee along with the names of the respective chairmen and members. Each committee has its own page in the Professional Development Web. Access these pages by following the various hyperlinks on this page. The Professional Development Committee, chaired by Paul Mc Kelvie, has assumed the responsibility of maintaining this website and producing the teacher's handbook.

Objectives |
This committee exists to facilitate the individual and professional
development of members of this faculty, and in so doing; it hopes to
make a contribution towards the evolution of an effective and cohesive
teaching team. It does this
by providing support materials and services to all teachers so that
their jobs become easier, more enjoyable and personally rewarding.
The main activities of the committee are:

disseminating relevant information,
ideas and materials which it creates or sources.
·
organising event s and activities
that are pertinent to the enhancement ELT.
·
orientating new members of staff to
the English Department and offering support during their settling-in
period.
·
counselling teachers experiencing
difficulties and assisting them to find and implement solutions to their
problems. |

Objectives |
This committee oversees the use of the CMS which is the system used for
storing and calculating students’ grades. It is also responsible for
monitoring and maintaining the department’s computer network connections
and individual member’s email accounts. The committee:

liases with the CMS development team to ensure that the individual
course databases correspond with the department’s needs.
·
organises training sessions for new teachers in the customisation and
operation of the various course CMS.
·
ensures that appropriate access is provided to network resources.
·
advises
other committees and coordinators on the use of ICT in the classroom. |
